CACSA Webinar on HB22-1294 With Passage Likely Experts to Discuss Implications
This is a reminder that CACSA is hosting a webinar on potential policy changes that could affect the way services for students with disabilities in some charter schools are structured. The webinar is scheduled for Friday, April 1st, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm.
Legislation appears likely to pass that will provide additional ways to structure the provision of services for students with disabilities. It would also change how funding and responsibilities are distributed between districts and charters. CACSA is pleased to convene a discussion with experts and stakeholders about the implications of these changes.
The webinar will explore HB22-1294, legislation sponsored by the Colorado League of Charter Schools (CLCS) that passed on the floor of the General Assembly this week in a vote of 64 to 1. The bill was amended slightly in the Education Committee, where it passed unanimously. The bill now moves to the Senate, where it is likely to pass.
The webinar will include Rep. Michaelson Jenet, a primary author of the bill; as well Dan Schaller from the League and Lauren Morando Rhim from the Center for Learner Equity (CLE). The recent research by the CLE speaks to changes like those envisioned in HB22-1294, and a group of stakeholders and experts will discuss the implications of these developments. You can read more about this topic in a Chalkbeat article out this week.
