Learn about implications of the Read Act and Equitable Distribution of Teachers for Charters

CACSA members are convening a group to learn more about how Colorado’s Read Act and the Equitable Distribution of Teachers (EDT) program could affect charters and districts. These programs interact with charter school curriculum decisions, charter waivers, and professional development activities in ways that may affect obligations of districts and charter schools. CACSA will convene a meeting with authorizers and guests from CDE from the appropriate offices to discuss these issues. If you are interested in joining, please contact Alex Medler directly and we will forward the meeting details as soon as they are available.

Briefings on a Transitional Accountability Year

The Colorado State Board of Education recently enacted three resolutions that spell out its positions regarding how the state’s accountability system ought to transition this year — following the interruptions to testing and the pause in accountability due to the pandemic. The State Board’s plans for a transitional accountability system involve strategies they can implement immediately and recommendations that would require action by the legislature. The details of how this transition plays out will inevitably affect charter school renewals and oversight. CACSA has scheduled two briefings with CDE staff who can explain the transition plans and answer questions about their impact on authorizing.

  • The CACSA Renewal Working Group will address this topic on Friday, January 14, from noon to 1 pm. This session will explore details of how the system will affect renewal processes directly.

CACSA Partnering on NACSA Survey

The National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA) is conducting a national survey of authorizers. CACSA is partnering with NACSA for Colorado authorizers, and the survey includes information that will help CACSA plan its future work. The lead charter contact in each district should receive an email with a link to the survey in the coming days. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey when you receive it.
