News & Updates

This CACSA Update has information on three issues:

1. Recommended Reading: CSI’s Ryan Marks describes an approach to differentiating among schools to better support them during the crisis

The Charter School Institute’s (CSI) Ryan Marks wrote a piece that was published by NACSA today describing CSI’s approach to authorizing during the COVID19 emergency. Read the piece here. CSI’s approach allows them to differentiate among schools so that they can customize the amount and types of support they give to the schools in their portfolio.

3. CACSA Webinar on “Year Zero” Schools and COVID, Thursday, May 7, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

This is the first in our series of weekly webinars on various authorizer topics. We plan to convene this series on Thursdays at 3:00 pm. These calls will replace our general COVID calls that had been held on Thursday mornings. Also look for an upcoming survey to prioritize topics and explore interest in future calls. These discussions are open to anyone. On this first webinar we will discuss the impact of the pandemic on schools that were planning to open for the first time this fall, a.k.a., Year Zero Schools. On the call authorizers will discuss complications for schools trying to open during the crisis, including:

Factors that schools and districts are considering as they decide whether to move forward with opening;
Challenges to opening that are unique to our current situation;
Ongoing safeguards that authorizers may want to consider during the summer and up to the start next fall; and
Communicating with schools on these stressful topics.
